What is Emergency Contraception?
Emergency contraception, commonly known as the “morning after pill,” is available at our pharmacy with or without a prescription which is a paid for service.
This form of contraception is most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse but can still be effective up to 72 hours later. For best results, acting quickly is essential.
How does it work?
The emergency contraceptive pill works by preventing or delaying the release of an egg (ovulation). It does not cause an abortion and will not harm a developing pregnancy if it fails.
Emergency contraception is very safe, with no serious long-term side effects. It’s an effective way to reduce the risk of unintended pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure.
